In the fall of 2015, Allison was diagnosed with POTS, an illness that caused a series of fainting spells. Following her doctors orders, Allison went home to order a medical ID. She wanted one that reflected her love of high fashion, didn’t serve as a constant reminder of her illness and made her feel beautiful. It was a tall order and she couldn't find one. With her deeply rooted appreciation for quality, design and beauty, RETURN TO SENDER was born. “If I was going to have to wear something on my wrist every day, then I wanted it to be a piece of jewelry that made me feel beautiful and strong, and would project those feelings to the world,” explains Allison. “With dozens of medical conditions and rare diseases where a medical ID is encouraged, I wanted to create a company where people of all ages could find attractive and stylish options. I won’t allow my diagnosis to impact my sense of fashion or how I live my life and I want others to feel that way too.”
With every sale, a portion of the proceeds is donated to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, an organization founded in 1988 by Paul Newman that provides “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families throughout the Northeast, free of charge.
ABOUT ALLISON Allison, 38, graduated from Kenyon College, received a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a MA from Brown University. She has worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, The US Department of State's Art in Embassies and NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, specializing in public art. She is an artist and currently lives in Brooklyn NY.
